Anything with a fee, a kit, or a “certification.” Disabled people are targeted by work-from-home scams precisely because the offers promise flexibility. The FTC’s rule is absolute: honest employers, including the federal government, never ask you to pay to get a job.
How survey money actually interacts with SSDI and SSI
On SSDI, the question is whether you are working at the substantial gainful activity level: $1,690 a month in 2026 for non-blind beneficiaries. Survey income at $50–$150 a month is nowhere near it.
